M.V.Sc. Programme
  1. Number of seats: Subject-wise number of seats shall be notified by the University every year. Out of total seats, 75% are reserved for the candidates eligible through state Pre-PG test conducted by appropriate University/agency. Total 25% seats are reserved for all India candidates eligible and nominated after counseling by ICAR through Central Pre-PG test conducted on behalf of ICAR.
  2. Seats not filled by ICAR candidates shall stand transferred to state seats.
  3. Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Science, obtained from RAU, Bikaner or a degree declared equivalent thereto from a recognized university or institute with minimum of 55% marks or equivalent OGPA.
  4. Admissions on state seats will be on the basis of merit cum reservation basis out of eligible candidates’ merit list drawn through state Pre-P.G admission test.
  5. The admission in different subjects will be made on the basis of general merit list prepared for the number of seats available following reservation roster.
  6. Seats shall be allotted during counseling/interview on first come first basis following merit and reservation roster.
  7. The reservation quota in state seats is as follows:
S.C – 16 %,
ST – 12 %,
OBC – 21 %,
Physically handicapped – 3 %, which shall be derived out of the prescribed seats for reserved and unreserved categories as per their standing in the merit.  
Out of the total state seats, 25% seats  are reserved for girl candidates in each category.

Ph.D programme

1. No. of admissions will be as notified from time to time.
2. A candidate must possesss a master's degree in the concerned subject from the faculty of veterinary and animal sciences, RAU, Bikaner or degree declared equivalent thereto from a recognized university.
3. Admission shall be on the basis of subject-wise reservation roster as declared by the Dean, PG Studies.
4. Merit of the candidates shall be drawn in the respective subject as per rules notified by the Dean, PG Studies.


Note: Students are advised to read carefully the Post-graduate Studies Regulations of the university. M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes are being run in accordance to these regulations and guidelines issued by the Dean, PG Studies from time to time and during the continuance of these programmes. Interpretation of the Dean, PG Studies shall be final and binding in the matters of these programmes.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GENERAL EXAMINATION RULES FOR  M.V.Sc. AND Ph.D. PROGRAMMES

Course requirements and other rules applicable to M.V.Sc. and Ph. D. students shall be strictly in accordance to the Post-Graduate Studies Regulations and notifications/orders of the university/its authority issued from time to time. Students are advised to go through them for proper understanding and interpretation. Students admitted to post-graduate programme will have to complete the  minimum requirement of course as prescribed for the specific programme. One academic session is divided into two semesters of approximately 17 weeks of teaching excluding one week of final semester examination.

1.Advisory system Every student shall have a major advisor who shall be from the student’s major field of study. The programme of study of the student will be chalked out by the major advisor and the advisory committee after taking into account the student’s previous academic attainments as per rules

.2.Programme of study Every student admitted to post-graduate programme shall be required to complete the following requirements successfully, before he/she is admitted to the degree:

  1. An approved programme of study prepared by his/her Advisory Committee
  2. A Comprehensive or preliminary examination.
  3. Submission of thesis and its evaluation.
  4. Thesis viva-voce examination.
  5. Minimum residential requirement.
  6. Minimum OGPA requirement.

2.1. M.V.Sc. Programme
i)       Each student will be required to take all the courses prescribed in a semester in order to earn the degree.

iii) Comprehensive examination

      1. A student shall take an oral comprehensive examination conducted by an external examiner and the student’s advisory committee.
      2. A student on good academic standing shall be eligible to appear at the oral examination after he/she has successfully completed at least 80 % of course work prescribed whenever scheduled. The comprehensive examination will be arranged only once in a semester.
2.2.Ph.D Programme (Course work)
  1. Each student will be required to take the courses prescribed by his/her advisory committee spread normally over the first and second semester in the major fields.

iii)     Seminars
A student in Ph.D. programme shall deliver 2 seminars, one each in the 2nd and 3rd semesters, but before the preliminary examination and the combined grade shall be reported at the end of the third semester. Ph.D. students may also be required to teach the undergraduate students as part of their Ph.D. programme.iv)     Preliminary Examination
a)      Each candidate enrolled for Ph.D. degree of the university shall be required to pass a preliminary examination after successful completion of all the prescribed courses including the seminars whenever scheduled. The preliminary examination will be arranged in third semester.
b)      The preliminary examination shall consist of a written examination followed by an oral examination by an external examiner and the advisory committee.v)      Adding or dropping of course (Ph.D.)A student may be allowed to add or drop a course during a semester up to the date prescribed for doing so, which, normally, will be two weeks from the date of commencement of the semester.

3.Maximum and minimum credit hours load in a semester
A full time regular student shall not be allowed to register for more than 15 credit hours and not less than 9 credit hours of courses in any semester. However, in the last semester of his course work he/she may be permitted to register for up to 18 credit hours to complete the programme of study.

4.Examination
1.      There will be two mid term (one hour) theory tests of 20 marks in each course in every semester. A student can opt to appear in one or both the tests. Higher marks obtained in ether of the test shall be used to compute final grade at the end of the semester.
2.      Question paper shall cover 1/3rd  of the syllabus in mid term test I and 2/3rd of the syllabus in midterm test II.
3.      There will be one final theory examination at the end of the semester of two hours duration.
4.      There shall be a practical examination  of 3 hours duration or more, at the end of a semester in the course wherever prescribed and would be conducted by the teacher concerned.
5.      The distribution of marks in examination/tests in each course having both theory and practical parts shall be as follows –
Mid term Test                     –          20 marks
Final Theory                        –         50 marks
Final Practical                    –          30 marks
Where there is no practical prescribed, the final theory examination shall be of 80 marks and vice-versa.

5.Attendance requirements
1.      A student shall be required to maintain a minimum of 75 % attendance in each course before final semester examination from the date of registration.
2.      En-masse absence from the classes shall not be ignored while counting the attendance for the semester.
3.      Students who are deputed by the college/university authorities to represent the college/university in approved co-curricular activities e.g. Republic Day Parade, Educational tours, Games and Sports etc. at College/ District/ State/ National level, will be given the credit of attendance to the extent of the number of lectures delivered during the period devoted towards the journey and participation in connection with the aforesaid activities. The total period of such absence from college shall not normally exceed 15 days in an academic year.
Note – The students are advised to refer to the university attendance rules.

6.Award of grades and their significance
1.      The final grade point obtained in each course will be determined by combining the marks obtained in the test and final examination(s) provided in each programme out of 100 and then dividing it with 10, thereby arriving at the grade point in each subject. Grade points of each subject shall be multiplied by respective course’s credit hours and total of such added product of all the subject shall be divided with total credit hour to draw Grade point average during the particular semester. This process shall be going on in  each semester.
2.      The following abbreviations shall  be used to denote the performance of a student in a course:
F=Fail, NC=Non-credit courses, W=withdrawn, DE=Detained, R=Repeated andUM=Unfair means.
3.      Grade DE will be equivalent to point zero in 10 point scale for calculation of Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA)
 
7.Minimum grade requirement for award of degree
In order to pass a course, a student shall be required to secure at least 5.00 point in a course for its successful completion. A student shall be required to attain a minimum OGPA of 6.50 separately in credit and non-credit courses without F/DE/UM in any course to be on good academic standing. A student shall be allowed to re-appear in cases of G/DE/UM. A student with an OGPA of less than 6.50 or having obtained F/DE/UM in any course at the end of a semester shall be placed on Scholastic Probation in the subsequent semester.

8.Minimum residential requirement and maximum permissible period
A student for Master’s programme or Ph.D. programme shall be required to complete a minimum period of 4 semesters for Master’s and 5 semesters for Ph.D. as a regular student. A student, whose programme of study included non-credit/deficiency course, may be required to be in residence for one extra semester. Further, a student shall have to complete all the requirements including submission of thesis within 10 and 12 semesters for Master’s and Ph.D. programmes respectively, which will also include period of scholastic probation or temporary withdrawal from the semester, failing which his/her admission shall stand cancelled.
